Adam Sandler has become hard to like over the last few years. In my younger days I really enjoyed his films like The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy. But recent times have proved he just keeps churning out the same man-child comedies over and over again with his last offering Grown Ups being possibly the worst comedy in recent times. This time we seem Adam Sandler play a rich plastic surgeon named Danny who reels in the ladies by pretending to be married to a horrible wife. After falling in love with a young blonde babe (Brooklyn Decker) he asks for the help of his assistant Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) by pretending to be his ex-wife. What starts out as a little white lie turns into something much bigger which involves Katherine's two children and a trip to Hawaii.
Of course Sandler can do this kind of film in his sleep, with his movies making a shed load of cash (in America anyway). There's no denying he's a talented guy and can do good acting films like the underrated Punch Drunk Love and Funny People but when you make more cash making slapstick comedies it's not surprising he sticks to the formula. That said this film isn't as bad as some critics are saying and is a far better effort then Grown Up's (then again what isn't). Jennifer Aniston plays a similar role to all the other films she's made since Friends finished, with only Horrible Bosses and Derailed being the exceptions.
However Nicole Kidman's cameo roll is uncalled for and the Hula competition with Aniston's Katherine is unfunny and a insult to everyone involved, including Sandler. Brooklyn Decker does well enough considering it's her first acting role and she's certain to appeal to the males watching. She keeps up with the jokes from seasoned cast and is charming throughout. But the jokes do become tiring very quickly and the story is unconvincing throughout. It also has the most annoying European accents your every likely to hear. Some have said this film is dismal, it's not as bad as that but it's not much better either. If your a fan of Sandler then this will be right up your street. For everyone else, give it a miss.
